At West Van Karate Academy we believe in giving back. Our goal as a Martial Arts school is not only to teach self-defence and self-discipline, but also to be an integrated member of the community and do our part to make the world a better place. This is why we have teamed up with the BC Cancer Foundation and started our fundraising campaign – Kicking out Cancer.
The Kicking out Cancer fundraiser was started in early 2014 in honor of Sensei Matt’s mother Judy, who, after an amazing ten year battle with breast cancer, passed away on April 9th, 2014. All funds raised for this fundraiser are raised in her name.
So far, this year alone, we have raised and donated close to $5000 to the BC Cancer Foundation in honor of Judy.
The fundraiser is run either as a trial 1-month karate lesson package for $50 (with ALL of the donation going directly to the BC Cancer foundation), or as a school fundraising program. So far the Kicking out Cancer fundraiser has been run in both West Vancouver and Burnaby schools, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
Are goal is to raise $10,000 each year to support cancer research. With our Kicking out Cancer fundraiser, we believe this goal is possible.
Thank you to all for your continuous support.
