Hi all,
This has been mentioned a few times in class already, but starting this week we’re implementing a new set of challenges to encourage regular attendance and practicing at home.
Regular attendance and extra practice are integral to a karate student’s development and rate of improvement, while also building confidence and self-discipline!
Participation in either of these karate challenges is completely optional, and will have no bearing on belt/stripe progression. It is simply an optional challenge for students to partake in if they’re interested.
Attendance Challenge: students will earn a special ‘attendance’ stripe on their belts for attending 2 months straight of regular classes. Exceptions will be made only for an absence due to something out of a students control (eg. sickness, car trouble, etc.).
Practice Challenge: students will earn a special ‘practice’ stripe AND small prize for training a minimum of 15 minutes, 2x/week at home outside of regular class time. Students can practice anything related to karate (physical conditioning, stretching, kata, sparring techniques/combinations, or simply practicing what we did in class at the last training). To document training, students can film their training and then either send the video file via email to info@westvan-karate.com or text/WhatsApp to 6043145374.
When submitting video, please include the subject “Practice Challenge” so they’re are easier to keep track of. Also, videos can be short – even a 2 minute video will suffice! Several students on our competition team have been doing this for a while, and when filming, some choose to use ‘time-lapse’ mode, or speed up their video so the file size is smaller.
If students are unable to video record their training, no worries; just write down what was focused in the training session and have a parent or guardian sign it.
This will also help students to receive extra feedback and help to improve!
For any questions, please never hesitate to reach out.
