We are very excited to give a BIG congratulations to Sensei Parvin Mayan for her silver medal at the Jr. Pan American Karate Championships! This is a huge deal for our dojo!
This competition permits only the top two competitors from each country in North America and South America to compete, and is regarded as one of the elite events for karate athletes. It is an extremely high level event and a huge accomplishment to make the podium.
Parvin bested an American athlete in the first round with a score of 4-0, then in the second round she defeated an athlete from Brasil coming back from a 0-1 deficit to come out on top 4-1. In the semi-final she defeated the Mexican champion 3-1 to earn a spot in the final. For the final Parvin fought the defending Pan-American champion from Chile and fought a close match but lost 4-3. With Parvin’s performance she qualifies to represent Canada at the 2017 Jr. World Championships held in Tenerife, Spain.
