JUNE UPDATE

JUNE UPDATE

June is upon us, and that means it’s almost time for Summer!

Many exciting events have been happening so far this month, and there are many more planned ahead!

1) Provincial Championships

On Sunday June 1st, the Karate BC Provincial Championships were held at the Richmond Olympic Oval. This competition hosted many top athletes from all across the province – all of whom were competing for a spot on the Karate BC Team.

We are very proud to announce that Kyle Macmillan, Brendan Wise, Isabel Gallant, and Natasha Harland have all qualified for the 2014/2015 BC Team Squad!

To qualify, the athletes had to place in either the gold, silver, or bronze position. Both Kyle and Brendan won the gold medal of their 16/17 -68kg and 14/15 -70kg divisions respectively. On the girls side, Isabel Gallant earned the title of Provincial Champion in the 14/15 girls +54kg division while Natasha won the bronze in her 16/17 -53kg division. Natasha’s bronze is especially impressive considering this was her first ever competition!

Kyle, Brendan, Isabel and Natasha will now train with the provincial team in addition to their regular dojo training in preparation for the final selection tournament to determine who will represent BC at next years National Championships.

Congratulations guys! Keep up the great work!

2) Teacher Job Action Strike

As we are sure you all know, rotating strikes have been taking place  all across BC,  affecting all public schools across the province.  This is a very difficult situation for all teachers, parents, and children connected to the public school system.

To help provide alternative care/activities for children, we have been hosting Karate Kid Day camps during these strike days. Each camp runs from 9-3 and costs $30 for the day. Our goal is to provide relief for parents who may be struggling to find care for their children, and also giving children something fun and active to do during the day rather than sitting around to play video games or watch television.

So far, the camps have proven to be a hit, with everyone having a great time (instructors included!).

If you’re interested in registering for our next day camp held on Wednesday June 11th, please contact us today to book your spot!
