CODE OF CONDUCT

All members of West Van Karate Academy are expected to follow our code of conduct below.

Respect

  • Show respect to instructors, fellow students, and visitors at all times.
  • Bow when entering and exiting the dojo.
  • Be respectful to the training space at all times.
  • Listen when others are speaking; no interupting.

Safety First

  • Follow all instructions for drills and training exercises.
  • Use control during sparring and sparring drills - no excessive force.
  • Bring ALL required training equipment to each training session (eg. gloves, mouthguard, shin guards)
  • Report injuries or unsafe behaviour immediately.

Discipline and Effort

  • Arrive on time and ready to train.
  • Give your best effort in every class.
  • Stay focused - no disruptive behaviour.

Positive Environment

  • Encourage and support other students.
  • No bullying, harassment, or discrimination.
  • Accept feedback with a coachable attitude.

Integrity

  • Be honest and take responsibility for your actions.
  • Show good sportsmanship - win or lose with respect and humility.
  • Do not misuse karate skills outside dojo.

Cleanliness and Appearance

  • Wear a clean uniform (gi) and proper belt.
  • Maintain personal hygiene (trim nails, clean hands/feet).
  • Keep the dojo clean and organized.

Commitment

  • Attend classes regularly and communicate absences when possible.
  • Follow grading requirements and practice at home.
  • Represent the dojo positively inside and outside of training.

Consequences

  • Verbal warning
  • Temporary removal from class
  • Suspension or dismissal (for serious or repeated issues)
