Spring Announcements

Spring Announcements

Hi everyone,

Spring break has officially ended and I hope everyone was able to enjoy some extra time with their families!

Please take a moment to read all the reminders and announcements below. Lots of goodies not to be missed!

1)    THE DOJO IS OPEN ONLY MONDAY THIS WEEK - We’re closed Tuesday-Thursday April 4th-6th as our instructors are away for a major competition. If  you’d like to come and support, we’ll be at the Richmond Olympic Oval competing Thursday-Sunday against Canada’s top athletes.

2)    T-SHIRT AND HOODIE ORDER FORMS - will be sent out in the next few weeks. We’re in the process of designing new, athletic-style t-shirts and long-sleeve t-shirts with a more breathable and athletic material. Stay tuned for the order forms!

3)    PROVINCIAL TEAM MEMBERS – We’ll be having one final training session tonight from 8:00-9:00pm. No cost to attend. We’ll also be taking a group photo of our squad attending nationals, so please aim to attend if possible.

4)    STRIPE/BELT TESTING – will be held Wednesday April 24th, and Thursday April 25th. Practice hard at home and don’t miss class. You’ll be good to go!

5)    COMPTITION OPPORTUNITY – Our next competition opportunity will be Sunday May 25th. This competition will be a friendship tournament between West Van Karate Academy, Burnaby Karate Academy, and KimNik Karate based out of Langley. This event will be a great opportunity for both beginners and more seasoned veterans to compete and experience competition in a fun and supportive environment. Stay tuned for our registration email sent in the next few weeks.

6)    BUDDY MONTH – After a long hiatus, we’re bringing back Buddy Month. During the month of May, students are welcome to bring a friend with them to train in class. Friends are welcome to train throughout the entire month of May (provided space is available) in the same class as the student who invited them, for free. Spaces are limited, and based on current class sizes and class capacity. Please reach out if you have any questions at all!

7)      DOJO SPACE - Some renovations have begun, and I've been told we'll be back to training in our regular dojo space at the end of April... Fingers crossed.

8)    A FRIEND IN NEED – A dear friend of mine, Helena Teo, and her wonderful family need support. Helena, Steve (hubby), and Leighton (daughter) have been long time members and strong supporters of our academy since we first opened over 10 years ago. Right now, Helena is seeking a kidney donor to avoid Dialysis treatment for the foreseeable future. Please take a moment to visit Helena’s Facebook page which has more detailed information, including ways to help.

Looking forward to a fun and exciting spring season with everyone.

See you at the dojo!
